This Privacy Policy describes how FIVE ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the FIVE mobile application ("the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable European data protection laws.

1. Who We Are

FIVE is a daily news application developed and operated by Alex Lhuillery, based in France. The App delivers AI-curated news briefings every morning in four languages.

2. Data We Collect

FIVE is designed with privacy in mind. We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the App.

Data stored locally on your device (never sent to our servers):

• Your language preference
• Your notification time preference
• Number of app launches (used to determine when to request notification permission)
• Cached news content for offline reading

Data stored on our servers (Supabase):

• Your device push notification token (only if you grant notification permission) — used solely to send the daily 7am notification and breaking news flash alerts
• Your language preference associated with your push token

We do not collect your name, email address, location, browsing history, or any other personal identifiable information.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

• To deliver your daily news edition in your chosen language
• To send you a daily push notification at 7am (if you have granted permission)
• To send breaking news flash notifications for major world events (if you have granted permission)
• To improve the quality and relevance of news selection

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the App.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Under the GDPR, we process your data based on the following legal grounds:

• Consent — for push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time in your device settings
• Legitimate interests — for app functionality such as language preferences and caching

5. AI-Generated Content

The news summaries and analyses in FIVE are generated automatically by artificial intelligence (Groq / Llama and Mistral AI) based on publicly available news sources. FIVE is not a press organisation and does not guarantee the absolute accuracy of the information presented. Sources are systematically cited for each story.

In compliance with European AI regulations, all AI-generated content in FIVE is labelled "IA · FIVE" within the App.

6. Third-Party Services

FIVE uses the following third-party services to operate:

• Supabase (database) — stores news content and push tokens. Data hosted in the EU. Privacy Policy
• Groq (AI generation) — processes anonymised news articles to generate summaries. Privacy Policy
• Mistral AI (AI fallback) — same purpose as above. Privacy Policy
• Expo / EAS (push notifications infrastructure). Privacy Policy

We do not sell your data to any third party.

7. Data Retention

Push notification tokens are retained as long as you use the App. If you delete the App, your token is no longer used. You may request deletion of your token at any time by contacting us at contact@fivenewsapp.com.

News content in our database is retained for 30 days then automatically deleted.

8. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights:

• Right of access — you may request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Right to rectification — you may request correction of inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — you may request deletion of your data
• Right to object — you may object to processing of your data
• Right to withdraw consent — you may withdraw notification permission at any time in your device settings

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. In France: CNIL (cnil.fr).

9. Children's Privacy

FIVE is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
